The University of Florence and CUS Florence join forces in a pilot project born from a proposal by a Pakistani student

The Unifi cricket team is born, a pilot project stemming from a proposal by Pakistani student Syed Ali Dilawar Shah, taken up by the University of Florence with the aim of establishing the first university team in this discipline.
Still not very widespread in our country, cricket is one of the most popular sports in countries such as Pakistan and India, where it has a huge following. To launch the initiative, the University has used funds from the PRO-BEN 2 - University for Students' Health project, which aims to promote mental and physical well-being and combat psychological and emotional distress among students. The trial also involves collaboration with CUS Firenze, which will organise the cricketers' activities.
The sports project will run for three months, until the end of 2025. The new team will include 15 athletes who have already been selected and represents a first step towards building a stable team. Training will take place at the Val di Rose facility, within the Sesto Fiorentino Science and Technology Campus, with twice-weekly athletic sessions on Mondays and Thursdays.
