In order to be admitted to the final exam, students must have acquired all the credits related to the educational activities included in their approved Study Plan and foreseen by the official Degree Programme Regulations. 12 ECTS are assigned to the final exam.

The completion of the Study Plan includes the acquisition of 6 ECTS through the Stage and Traineeship or Internship.

The traineeship or internship must be officially activated through the Internship Office of the School of Engineering or with the support of the professors in charge of its organization.

The final exam consists of the preparation of a thesis and its public discussion. The thesis must be an original and autonomous work carried out by the student under the supervision of at least two university professors, one of whom should preferably be the holder of a course within the Degree Programme.

If part of the preparation work for the final exam is carried out within a traineeship or internship activity, part of the credits otherwise assigned to the final exam may be further attributed to this activity.

If the thesis activity is carried out externally at a company or other institution, the university supervisors are normally joined by a company expert acting as tutor.

 

Students working on the final thesis should apply advanced methodologies related to research and technological innovation activities in specific sectors, in accordance with the learning objectives of the Degree Programme. In this way, students develop knowledge and autonomous judgement skills in specific fields under the supervision of their advisors.  

The thesis must be the result of the student's original work and must comply with the current University guidelines on the use of Artificial Intelligence.

The final thesis must be written and defended in English.

The final exam is mandatory to obtain the Second Cycle Degree.
